Basic guitar scales guideline

Ever wonder how you could play like Santana? Soloing spontaneously but error free?
Now you can stand a chance to discover the secret behind this here.

Ok.. Today I'll covering up with you just the basic guideline of playing with guitar scales. I'd selected "Major" scale for

this session although you can find for about 17 scales online here http://www.guitarists.net/scales/index.php

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Session begin:
Here, I separated it into 2 types. One i called it as "C Type" while another is "G Type".

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
C Type:

From above picture, I'm presenting a 'C' scale/'C' key. Each circles on the fretboard are the notes for this scale/key.Therefore, 'C' note (in yellowish white color, fret no.3, strings 5) will be the root for this scale/key. Now, try run the scale from the root, which is 'C' note on fret no.3, strings 5, note by note until the note of 'A' on fret no.5, strings 1.
Besure that you your finger are placing on the correct fret accordingly to below fingers assignment:
Finger 1: incharged of fret no.2
Finger 2: incharged of fret no.3
Finger 3: incharged of fret no.4
Finger 4: incharged of fret no.5
You will see each finger are incharged on a fret only.
Try to run the notes in reverse order from strings no.1 to no.5 again accordingly the scale.

Repeatly practice this from strings 5 to 1 & reverse order 1 - 5 until you feel like you are dancing on the fretboards.

You can play other scale/key with the same "C Type" pattern by moving the root 1 step forward or backward dependant on the 5th string notes. For instance:
B scale/key: Root will be fret no.2
C scale/key: Root will be fret no.3
C# scale/key: Root will be fret no.4
D scale/key: Root will be fret no.5
D# scale/key: Root will be fret no.6
....and so on.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
G Type:

Above picture representing 'G' scale/key. Each circles on the fretboard are the notes for this scale/key &therefore, 'G' note (in yellowish white color, fret no.3, stings 6) will be the root for this scale/key. Try run the scale from the root, which is 'G' note on fret no.3, stings 6, note by note until the note of 'A' on fret no.5, stings 1.
Again, your fingers must place accordingly as same as above fingers assignment in "C Type" session.

Repeatly practice this from strings 6 to 1 & reverse order 1 - 6 and each picking of strings must be able to hear it clearly.

You can play other scale/key with the same "G Type" pattern by moving the root 1 step forward or backward dependant on the 6th string notes. For instance:
F scale/key: Root will be fret no.1
F# scale/key: Root will be fret no.2
G scale/key: Root will be fret no.3
G# scale/key: Root will be fret no.4
A scale/key: Root will be fret no.5
....and so on.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tips:
1. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE
2. Listen and play your favourite songs.
3. Learn more scales beside Major. You can find more scales from here http://www.guitarists.net/scales/index.php
4. See what this crazy man does with Cannon in D. A combination of various scales. Darn..!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion:
Well, this session just a basic guideline for building up from the ground especially for the beginners. There're many more way to improve & you can always search it online. However it's quite useful & good enough for me to present it in church while most of the songs are within slow to alternative rock.

May God be with you always. Happy reading :)
